Bible story: The crucifixion of Jesus
Creative activities based on the Bible story of The crucifixion of Jesus
After Jesus is sentenced by Pilate, he is mocked and beaten by Roman soldiers. They place a crown of thorns on his head, dress him in a purple robe, and mockingly hail him as the king of the Jews. They then lead Jesus to Golgotha, where he is to be crucified. Along the way, Simon of Cyrene is compelled to carry Jesus' cross.
At Golgotha, Jesus is offered wine mixed with gall, but he refuses to drink it. The soldiers then nail Jesus to the cross and divide his garments among themselves, fulfilling the prophecy in Psalm 22:18. The scene is one of intense suffering and humiliation, but it also foreshadows the triumph of Jesus' ultimate sacrifice for the redemption of humanity.
