Mordecai is Queen Esther's uncle and Haman's arch enemy. On two occasions Mordecai prevents King Ahasuerus from being assassinated. For this he is honored, a task Haman has to perform. After Haman is killed and the Jewish people saved, Mordecai receives many honors from the king.
